Grand Prix Updates

The grand prix standings are updated and posted through the Enka Triathlon.  While I was working on the updates through Lake Logan it is very apparent that few members are sending me their results with the form we set up.  That means a lot of you who have earned points during the season have not been credited with those points.

The form is incredibly easy to use.  Simply click HERE and fill in the fields.  You will only need to know your time for each event you enter.

We have had a lot of new members join since the season began, so here are the grand prix rules:

Person must be a current club member before June 1 to score for any race before that date; after June 1 person must be a current club member at the time of the race to score

·         Scoring will be done similar to Set Up Events series’

o       Average of top 5 male and female times will establish the base time for each gender

o       Based time will be divided by member time and then multiplied by the Event Weight to determine the Event Score

·         Person must notify Greg they have raced an event in order to be scored.  A simple reporting form is available on the web site.

·         Standings will be posted monthly on web site

·         No minimum number of races

·         Prizes will be awarded to top 5 in each gender at the end of season party

The deadline for submitting your races is October 30, 2010.  Please send them in!

Asheville Triathlon Club Scholarships

A generous local triathlete has recently donated some funds to the Asheville Triathlon Club. These monies are to be used for local athletes interested in joining the triathlon club but perhaps do not have the funds to purchase a club membership. Asheville Triathlon Club memberships are $25 for an individual and $40 for a family membership for a year. All scholarship entries will be reviewed confidentially by the Asheville Triathlon Club board and applicants will be notified within 15 days if they are approved for the discount or free membership. Please complete the following Asheville Triathlon Club Membership Scholarship Form so we know how to best assist your particular need.

Benefit for Brad Smith --- Local Triathlete Injured in a Cycling Accident

As many of you are aware, a local triathlete and a member of the Asheville Triathlon Club, was in a serious biking accident several weeks ago.  Brad's wife Carrie Smith works for Carmichael Training Systems and Brad works in Brevard, NC. Brad has undergone surgery and is still unable to move his legs. He is being moved from Asheville to Atlanta today to start undergoing rehab.

The Asheville Triathlon Club will be teaming up with other local community businesses to host a fundraiser for Brad on July 10th. A Silent Auction and Concert in the Park will be held at Fletcher park from 5-8pm on July 10th. We are trying to help him with some of his medical equipment expenses. The auction will take place under the pavilion. Potluck event - Bring a dish to share. See Flyer for Silent Auction here for more information

Thank you for taking the time to help others in your community!

Updated Grand Prix Standings Posted

The current standings of the 2010 club Grand Prix series have been posted to the web site.  The races in both divisions are very close and will come to those races in the second half of the year.  The .75 points awarded to those who volunteer at the club aid station at the Asheville Citizen-Times Half Marathon could decide the results (Hint, hint!).

I have tried to capture everybody's results but the club has grown so fast it is possible I have missed somebody.  To avoid this in the future, please submit your race results to me using the form on the web site.  It is quick and easy.

If you are new member, race results are counted for all 2010 races if you joined before June 1.  If you joined after that date, only races after that will count in your total.

Congratulations to everybody who has raced so far and good luck for the rest of the season.
